Approach are holding a Dementia Friendly Church Service in conjunction with the Diocese of Lichfield and BBC Radio Stoke on Palm Sunday 25th. March 2018.
The service will be specially adapted to suit the needs of people living with dementia.
Approach CEO Will Boyce said “This is another step forward in the innovative work we have been doing with faith groups. It shows great commitment to reach the wider community from the Diocese of Lichfield and their Dementia Friendly Church Enabler, Reverend Mike Bridgewater who has been instrumental in leading the church to become an active member of the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Dementia Action Alliance. I’m delighted that people affected by dementia can continue to live well by accessing and enjoying services that accommodate their needs. ”
David Primrose, Diocesan Director of Transforming Communities said “Life is a journey of faith. The challenges that come with dementia invite us to renew the ways we express that faith in worship and prayer. This church service, and its subsequent radio broadcast, will encourage us all to find spiritual strength amidst changing circumstances.”
Reverend Mike Bridgewater will be officiating the service and Bishop of Stafford, Geoffrey Annas will be delivering the sermon.
How to attend
All are welcome to attend the service which will be held at the Holy Trinity Church, Church Street, Chesterton, Newcastle under Lyme, ST5 7HJ. The service centre around the issue of dementia in today’s society.
BBC Radio Stoke will also be recording the service and there are plans to broadcast it during Dementia Action Week 2018 on Sunday 27th May.
