Ambitious Dave Climbs Kilimanjaro to Raise £3000 to Support his Local Carers Café

In January 2020, Dave Boon is taking part in the challenge of a lifetime as he heads over to Tanzania for 10 days to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

Dave has been interested in trekking Kilimanjaro since walking Hadrian’s Wall last year to raise funds for Marie Curie.

Dave recently found out about the work Approach does through a friend who has a relative living with dementia. They told him about the work Approach does in supporting individuals with the condition as well as their carers. Dave was immediately struck by our mission and wanted to support us. For Dave, fundraising through his ambitious Kilimanjaro climb seemed an ideal way to do this.

Approach now relies on fundraising and the generous donations of our community to operate our Carers Cafes. Dave is therefore hoping to raise £3000 in order to take care of the cost of his local Approach cafe in Bucknall. This is a fantastic sum of money which will enable us to provide our carers affected by dementia with this most valuable service for a whole YEAR!

Dave said: “Since speaking to my friends about my upcoming fundraising venture, it has come to light that so many of them are personally affected by dementia, having either a relative or friend with the condition. It has really opened my eyes up to how many people are someway affected; just in my local area. I therefore hope that as well as financially supporting Approach, I can also raise awareness of dementia and allow more people to find about what services are available to them locally.

If you would like to support Dave, you can head over to his JustGiving Page- to help him reach his target.
