The Approach Men in Sheds Group in Newcastle have recently had the opportunity to work with the local Arts Group Letting in the Light. This project was funded by the Arts Council England through the ‘Live Age Festival’.
The group members have had a fantastic time joining in with a variety of activities such as photography, reminiscence, woodwork, art through technology, etc. Some members have been to visit the Art Stop studio in Stoke and others have worked with the artists at our Brook Centre base.
Men in Sheds members have really enjoyed the opportunity to work with artists who have brought new creative and innovative activities to the groups. Although Approach staff undertake various different activities on a daily basis we are always looking for new opportunities and ideas. Arts Activities can aid communication for individuals with dementia and offers ways of working in a more person-centred way.
Letting in the Light have brought fun and entertainment to the group members and we are delighted with their impact on the group.
The Men in Sheds want to send a massive thank you to everyone from Letting in the Light!
